Liverpool Cathedral, an architectural marvel and the largest religious building in Britain, sought to enhance its interior space with furniture that mirrored its grandeur while offering unmatched versatility. To achieve this, they turned to the iconic Howe 40/4 chairs, a decision blending modern design with historical gravitas of a sacred space. These chairs were chosen for their ability to adapt seamlessly to diverse needs, worship services to concerts, embodying both form and function in perfect harmony.
Installed in 2018, the Howe 40/4 chairs brought better flexibility to the Cathedral’s nave. With their award-winning design by David Rowland, the 400 chairs, supplied by Treske, replaced older, less versatile seating. Their walnut veneer finish resonates with the Cathedral's majestic ambiance, while their stackable nature and linking feature allowed for rapid reconfiguration of the space. Whether set up for large congregations or swiftly cleared to make way for the next event, the chairs have proven indispensable in the Cathedral’s dynamic environment.
The Head Verger, Dave Corns, expressed his satisfaction with the choice, noting that the chairs not only improved the aesthetic appeal of the space but also provided the practical benefits necessary for a venue of great importance.
